Once the countryside and woodland is gone it’s gone forever. Kate McCreery it’ll grow back - it’s not as big an issue as people are making out. The same things were said about the Newbury bypass and numerous other schemes. Exaggerating the situation actually makes things worse because it polarises attitudes - the long-term plan is sound. Kate McCreery maybe because the nation is getting bigger and bigger because we're cramming more people in and also there can be as much as 3 or 4 car families all using the roads, so more space needs to be made or you'll be complaining about sitting in traffic for hours on end. Agree, Kate McCreery. Walking yesterday near the route in Staffordshire we found rows of mature trees that had been felled. I counted 178 rings on one of the stumps. That isn't the whole story as the way it had been cut made it impossible to count them all. So probably 200 years old.
