The police have plenty of power to deal with violent protests already. The government have caused this reaction and really need to back down. Boris Johnson , may have a degree in Classics from Balliol College Oxford , but he knows begger all about British Social History. Ihe British tradition is that of the mob having a riot to let Parliament know that they did not like what was happening . Even the Tories in those far off days feared the mob , and if it got restless they usually had the sense to back down , fearing revolution.
