Dont know what it's like in the UK, but in Germany, when water, gas and electricity and the post office were in govt hands, we never paid so much in reference to our net income nor were the increases that hefty and that often. Privatization of the energy sector did not help the consumer one whit. The consumer is at the mercy of these megalomaniac corporations while the govt sits on its hands. The only positive was regarding telephone/telecom costs. They went down considerably after the split from Deutsche Post. But even the Post Office now is together with DHL and mostly privatized and there are regular hefty increases in postal rates. Wasn't like that before. Erika Noeth correct. Here in the UK everything was government run until the Conservative Party privatised it all. Now we are at the mercy of the same greedy party and rich greedy companies.
