 I am haulage owner driver when diesel goes up following month fuel surcharge goes up ,( over 20% increase in transport cost in 12 months starting long before Ukraine. ) in effect I absorb one months rise this is happening throughout supply chain in different forms ie as hedged deals end full rise passing on firms absorbing for few months . Until demand drops it won't stop .supply and demand have to be in harmony for price stability . £30 limit doesn't work as it just means you have to go back to the shop again sooner and in a way end up spending more, especially if you've bought smaller items like a 400g loaf instead of an 800g loaf or 250g of marg instead of 500g - many of these smaller items are actually set at nearly as high a price as the bigger ones - take for example 2 pints of milk - in Asda you could buy a 2 pint carton (or even a 1 pint carton) of milk rather than a 4 pint - 2 pints is £1.05 which would reduce your shopping by 30p but for 30p more you're actually getting a second bottle.
